Many of you who visit us here at Sunshine River Tours have asked us about renting kayaks.

We heard you.

And now our Crystal River Kayak Rentals service is here to accommodate you.

We make seeing the area’s manatees as easy and as comfortable as possible for you and we’ve made kayaking the area’s springs and inlets just as easy, no matter if you’ve never paddled a kayak before.

For example, there’s no need for you to go the Crystal River -- we take you there in our comfortable 15-passenger van. In fact, we’ll take you to the entry point where manatees hang out. In addition, there will be no worries about the safety of your car while you kayak. We meet at Luigi’s Restaurant and your car will be safe in the parking lot.

It’s just a 10-minute ride from the restaurant to the river’s entry point. You’ll meet us at the restaurant at 7:30 a.m. (come earlier if you’d like to take advantage of Luigi’s full-breakfast menu) and we’ll transport you to the river for your all day adventure.

We also supply you with maps of the area and let you know where the manatees have been sighted lately.

In fact, you may see more manatees from your kayak than from the boats we use to bring you to areas where you may swim with them. Kayaks allow you to explore inlets and springs smaller than our flat-bottomed boats usually go. You’ll also have a chance to explore the many “nooks and crannies” of the springs’ inlets and creeks. Don’t be surprised if you come across river otters frolicking near shore, or if a flock of birds floats right by you. You’ll also get a chance to see some beautiful water tarpon or other fish (no fishing is allowed, however).

Our full-day kayak rental is just $30 per person. We provide you with Delta 12.10 kayaks, vessels we consider to be the most durable, adjustable and comfortable tracking kayak available for rentals.

We’ll give you a short kayaking how-to (kayaking is really easy!) before you head off on your own at about 8:30. We pick you up again between noon and 1 p.m. or between 3-4 p.m.

All you need do is bring bring a dry bag should any clothes get wet and maybe a dry shirt/pants, just in case. Not to worry, the chances of you taking a tumble into the river are really quite slim, but it’s always best to be prepared. Layered clothes also are a great idea, as the air will warm up over the morning.
